Dr. Edgar was born in Santo Domingo on May 15 in the year 1961. He was born to Juan Francisco Contreras and Mrs. Valentina Rosario Contreras. His father was a dentist while his mother was responsible for supporting the family emotionally and financially.

He passed High School from Nacional Pedro HenríquezUreña and enlisted for medicine in Santo Domingo’s Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). He became a Doctor in Medicine. Subsequently he received his master’s degree from fromInstitutoTecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) on Human and Sustainable Development.

Professional life of Dr. Edgar Contreras

Dr. Edgar began his career along his brother in InstitutoNacional de Diabetes where he worked for 2 years under the mentorship of Dr. Miguel Guerrero. He received his specialization in plastic surgery from La Lagoa Hospital in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He practiced for 3 years and also taught plastic surgery at Clínica Centro Plástica.

Dr. Edgar Contreras stayed in Rio de Janerio and specialized in treatment of burnt patients from the Armed forces. He also gained knowledge on oncologic plastic surgery by taking up a course at National Cancer Institute of Rio de Janeiro. He further learnt to treat patients with cleft lips and educated himself on Periorbital Plastic Surgery.

He started working as a plastic surgeon in MédicoBellasArtes after he returned to his country. In 1998 he completed a course on Laser application in plastic surgery. He set up the Dominican Society of Medicine and Laser Surgery in that year and also became a member of Colombian Society of Medicine and Laser Surgery.
